Maybe player A would have redoubled at some point if he knew that they were playing to 7. Then he would have won the match anyway. The fact that he didn't do so seems to imply that he honestly thought they were playing to 5.

From player A's perspective it doesn't seem like a fair solution to change the match length from 5 to 7 after the completion of what he figured was the last game.

The only thing making the ruling of the match being to 7 reasonable, is the fact that the TD and player A is the same player. The TD didn't make a good enough effort of ensuring that both players were aware of the match length.
