In the Madison chouette, Box must at least break even on the money and defeat the Captain in order to retain his seat. So in Madtown, Box would retain the Box in your scenario.

Instances where someone other than the Captain ascends to the Box are pretty rare. They occur where the Captain drops early, but at least some of the crew remain in the game and defeat the Box at a higher cube level.
