Regarding active/inactive players and the criteria for appearing on the ranking lists of USBGF, DbGF, NBGF, and BIBA:

The Norwegian list is the most strict. To be ranked, you must be a current paid member, have played at least 15 matches, and have played at least one match in the last 12 months. Thus only 195 players appear on the list. There must be some current paid members who don't meet the other two criteria.

The Danish list contains all (and only) current paid members, active or not, although few pay but don't play. DBgF tracks Total Match Points ("TMP") earned per calendar year. Thus it is possible to see that in 2009 and 2010, 732 and 660 paid members, respectively, played at least one rated match. DBgF membership is required to participate in any of the approximately 25 weekend tournaments annually run or approved by DGgF, but is not required to participate in the weekly tournaments that several of the local clubs sponsor. Weekly tournament matches are rated if both players are paid members.

The popular DBgF annual team tournament runs from September to February. The tournament calendar is relatively slow in the summer months. Some members who let their half-year memberships expire in June may rejoin in the fall in order to play in the team tournament. Four days ago there were 537 paid members; today there are 542.

The BIBA all-time list (1077 players) does not distinguish between active and inactive players. BIBA also has a ranking list of 92 players who currently meet the requirements for designation as an active player.

The USBGF list includes members and nonmembers who have played in at least one rated tournament event since January 2009.
