Playing "touch" in tournaments

As more people learn backgammon online, there is a growing movement toward touch moves. Perhaps some players would find going to a "pure" touch-move rule too onerous. In that case, this rule might be a good compromise:

"You must move checkers one at a time [already the rule]. You can only take back the last checker you moved. As soon as you touch a different checker, the previous checker cannot be moved back."

This would eliminate much of the checker shuffling, especially in the case of doubles where it can be hard to follow what your opponent is doing.
