Playing "touch" in tournaments

The Bosnian rule is a very good compromise. Enforcing 'touch and move' in bg would be too much of a jump for many players, and would therefore lead to disputes. The 'lift' or 'motion' rule would be much more practical, and a possible stepping stone to eventual 'touch rule', though it would have to be in use for some years, I think.

Crazy that we can't write anything other than the score, yet CAN make tentative plays (as I said in a recent post). For me, the main reason I agree with the rule that you can't do written calculations is that a player could write down figures in a MET say - mostly garbage - then switch it for one he prepared earlier. That's a good enough reason to ban it, for me. But written calculations, if allowed, should not really distract an opponent (as long as the paper was off the board). However, allowing a tournament player to rapidly chequer shuffle up and down is insane IMO. Particularly difficult to follow with small doubles. Do they allow these things in Chess, Draughts, Go etc? I don't think so!
