In Response To: Backgammon for Blood: A Guide for Those Who Like to Play but Love to Win (Second Edition) (Leonardo Jerkovic)

The history is as follows:

I wrote a primer called "Backgammon to Win" which was published by New Holland in the UK. The material is very similar to my "Backgammon for Dummies" but without the Dummies house style which you either love or hate. My own preference is for "BG to Win" but Dummies far outsells it due to the branding. As I now own the rights to the book I am currently working on an updated version of "BG to Win" which should be out by Christmas.

About 9 months after "BG to Win" was first published the US publisher Skyhorse was about to reissue Becker's "Backgammon for Blood". However, they discovered they didn't own the rights to the diagrams and it would be cost prohibitive to recreate them. They solved their problem by buying the US rights to "BG to Win" and publishing it with the old Becker title - my attempts to get them to change the title failed.

If you want some fun and to learn how to slot your own bar-point with an opening 63 read the original Becker version. If you want to learn the basics of modern backgammon I'd vote for reading my version but the chocie is yours!

I will be self-publishing the new edition of "Backgammon to Win" so it won't appear under the "Backgammon for Blood" title at all.

Hope that clears up everything.

Chris
