I agree that it would be an improvement on the current rules. However, I think that a middle ground where, e.g. moved checkers must- that's right, 'must', not just 'recommended'- be offset a discernible distance (e.g. 2 cm) from existing checkers on the point or placed at the edge of an empty point, and returned to the original point before any alternative moves are considered, would do less to accelerate the current trend of declining live tournament attendance.
