I don't see how 13/8 can be bad. If we get hit we don't want a loose checker languishing in our board, and if we get lucky enough to send another opp back we may not need the started (or completed) point with our cube leverage. If not slotting meant hurting our position then it would be a different story, but 13/8 is not damaging. On top of that, gammon loss danger isn't to be ignored here.
