I've been on FIBS since 1992 - one of the first - and I still enjoy it for a reasonable selection of good opponents, though a lot turn up just to play the bots. There's a decent amount of banter goes on among the regulars, if you like that sort of thing. Ratings manipulators have pretty much vanished in recent years, though you still get droppers (who keep reappearing under new names, it seems), phone users who have permanently poor connections, and a minority of abusive players. And for the women, sexual harassment. The one thing that really frustrates me is that anyone can create an account without any verification and start sending creepy messages that you can't block until after the event.

I've also played at PartyGammon a bit, but I wouldn't recommend it. The standard of play is poor for small or no stakes, the rake is supposed to be 6% but it's what I would think of as 12%, the UI is painful, and there is one very nasty behaviour you see a lot - you get to a position where you are gin, opponent disconnects. You have to sit through two minutes disconnect protection, then sit and watch their timer run to 0, and a couple of seconds before it does they reappear - clearly hoping you had quit the game window and forgotten.
