Rules or Etiquette

The Legal Moves rule is clear on this subject. If a player makes an illegal move and it is pointed out, the player is allowed to make any legal move instead. The opponent does not have the option of deciding which legal move is made.
So in the chouette, the other player should not have moved his opponent's checker and then rolled since the first player could have decided to make an entirely different move.
