Moving the back checkers up to the 14-point doesn't put them in a considerably better spot. (To be clear, it does put them in a better spot, but not 'considerably' better, as in "not enough to shun making the 5-point.")
If opp didn't have a checker on our 3-point, or was likely to be in a hurry to escape that checker, then there is less motivation (although still some) to make the 5-point. But here the 5-point will do a lot of good.
After making the 5-point, we do have the option of actually splitting those back checkers since opp has a homeboard blot. Split, they will be easier to bring home (uhh, that is if they don't get hit...). Still, splitting gives opp a handful of hit-and-covers which s/he won't hesitate to execute. Looks to me like we're better off keeping those back two married.
