Mini-backgammon ?

Sorry if my answer is a bit harsh.
If a kid is not interested, then he is not interested. All those young chess players didn't start with 'mini-chess' either, they started with real chess. In my opinion that is the only way to start with backgammon (real backgammon). I don't think backgammon appeals to children much though, most people I know started with backgammon most early when they were in early twenties (A couple of exceptions here and there though).
All in all children are like adults, they have diverse interests. If I were a parent, I would try to encourage whatever they seem have a big interest for, weather that may be backgammon, chess, tennis, playing piano, painting, or whatever.
Sorry again if post is somewhat harsh, I don't want to tell anybody how to raise their children, I just wanted to give my view.
