Ethical Quandary

There might be rapists and murderers among your opponents and they just haven't been caught. How do you know who you are really playing against?
One further, why didn't you pull out of the event when you were aware they were in it? Why do I ask this. because if you have an ethical problem playing them, then why don't you have an ethical problem potentially winning their money that may have been a proceed of the crime, or if they win your money could be supporting them financially?
I am surprised that if you have an "ethical problem" of this nature with a player that it is only when it comes to playing against them.If you really believed in what you were saying you would not play in any event where they were playing - period.
Do you ask people for their criminal record before allowing them in an event? What about someone who committed murder, served 25 years, and did their time and is a productive citizen now?
