I am not against penalties, but I think that the situation was entirely preventable. The players screwed up, whether intentionally or not. But had simple precautions been in place it didn't have to be this way. I'm with Neil when he asks why staff didn't/doesn't make some cursory review of the tables periodically. If there is such a time crunch in the event, then checking if all tables have clocks seems like a reasonable thing for staff to do.

If I were TD and I knew time was tight, then I'd be looking for clocked tables as normal duties and keep an eye on long matches and the time limit. In this case I find it peculiar that no one on staff noticed that a table was so far over the 1.5 hour limit. Unless I misread it they were nearly finished when the discover was made. That seems to suggest to me that they were playing for a good period of time past 1.5 hours before being confronted.

I did have this picture of these 2 players playing in the master bathroom at Dorn's place and they had the door closed before anyone noticed ;-).
