I wouldn't blame you for your OTB play -- was it online? with a certain self-imposed time constraint? Your play leaves a normal looking position (no gaps, builders in normal places). The other play uses a whole doublet to shuffle checkers and leaves a third checker on the highest point. It looks wrong! Besides which, I miscounted -- 6/3(4) leaves 9 shot-leaving numbers, but 6/off(2) leaves only 7.

But clearing the 6 point is big. Compare for example these two positions, reached with 3-3 ... 6-6 ... 4-2 :

The first position is much more dangerous.

After 6/off(2), you also have some numbers that leave a spare gap on the 4, with 1 spare each on the 5 and 3 points; and probably quite a few sequences that clear the 6 but leave no spares on the 3 point -- just as you had to play some 4's from the 6 point, now you'd have to play some 3's from the 5 point.
