In defense of Alphabet Soup

Just saw Bob Glass’s entertaining post in which he pokes good-natured fun at the Byzantine world of internet backgammon tournaments. I had a good laugh like everyone else, but I want the organizers of these events – Leonardo Jerkovic, Rich Janowski, Justin Nunez, Joe Russell, et al -- to know that I enjoy their tournaments and appreciate their efforts. I live half way between NYC and Hartford – if there is a chouette within 50 miles of here it’s news to me. And I’m sure I’m not the only one who is kept off the ABT, for the most part, by the press of work and consideration for a non-BGplaying wife. For those of us who don’t have access to live play, internet tournaments are as close as we’re likely to get to meaningful backgammon competition against other humans. For me, except on rare occasions, it’s the only game in town. Thanks to you guys for setting up these events.
