Problem 1 This position looks like it was close to a cube before the roll. Now the choice is to find the play with the max cube equity. Hitting is gammonish but those plays often move away from cube efficiency. Consider White's rolls that would subsequently enter both checkers -- all 9 of those look like they give opp a better position than he had before this roll. By making the barpoint, White has {43 -- duplicated, and 44} as very good rolls. Aces make the deep anchor but that still looks like a cube (and I'm not sure about the take). I prefer to finesse this towards an efficient cube turn. 10/7, 8/7
Problem 2 How is White going to win this game? Hit a shot (but the board needs to be decent when that happens) or win a straight race. This appears to be one of those situations where the intersection of the two winning GP's is large making it hard to add the two separate winning equities. I.e. by staying for the shot, White makes it hard to win the race (as the board crunches) while breaking for it means not only will White have trouble hitting but the remaining back checker becomes the prey. The main thing in White's favor in the stay-back scenario is that Blue's racing position could lose efficiency by trying to avoid leaving a direct shot (and secondarily having no way to fill the 4-point). Thinking of the race, right now White would need about 10 pips of wastage in order to have a pass. It doesn't seem that bad to me. D+T
Problem 3 PoH might win the most games and it sure looks like it wins a lot more gammons. White's lucky three enter+hit rolls are somewhat offset with Blue's subsequent immediate shots. Go for the throat. 3*(2)
