Backgammon and Poker share a common element; both games have random elements built into the game and you can extrapolate the odds of certain events happening based on the probability that they will occur. The difference is that in Backgammon all the information that's available to you at any given moment is available to your opponent as well. This is not the case in Poker.

Poker is a game of hidden information, it's built into the game. Naturally, this encourages and rewards deceit. All good Poker players look for ways to misdirect their opponents to further the end goal of making money. It's part of the game.

In both of Stick's posts what the villain did was ethically unfair but was also legal and therefore allowed by the rules of the game. In both cases I think the guys are total scumbags but they have the right to play that way if they choose. Most important to note: in both cases their deceit was profitable for them.
