A final point about slotting:

This post clarifies the fact that slotting does not ever include hitting with the slotted checker. Slotting mean placing a checker on an unoccupied point.

I suppose it is possible to hit incidentally in a slotting play, so long as the hit(s) are made on points other than the slotted point. In the event there is a choice, no rule seems to prefer hitting over not hitting. (Unless, that is, the Hit/Most/Six Rule applies to slotting moves.)
