Paul, I would have insisted on paying, saying, "no, no, you won the money, you have to take it".

Costa Ricans have a custom - if you meet one and tell him you like the shirt he is wearing, he'll take it off his back and insisted you have it as a gift. And he will not take "no" as an answer.

So just for the fun of it, next time you see that fellow in Punta Cana, tell him you like his shirt, and when he goes to give it to you, say, "I can't take it because you did not take the $10 I lost to you".

Then, and only then, will you be even with him and you can get it off your conscience.
