Perhaps specifically sanctioning or endorsing tournaments is not required -- as certain liabilities could result.
I think it would be appropriate that the USBGF, in addition to it's calendar of domestic events, add a calendar of international events -- much like CJC does. Maybe even a link to CJC's calendar -- maybe there is one, I haven't looked. But I think that would be a useful addition.
However, comments, or performance records, on various tournaments, directors, promoters/sponsors, etc. could be offered. How many years has the tournament been held, how long is the current director been in place, how many significant tournaments the director has directed, what is the annual attendance, have there ever been reported problems w/ payoffs, etc. Also, perhaps some basic data on the venue, venue services, accessibility (airport and distance to airport), transportation, etc. -- and maybe these items could be simply covered by links to tournament sites/brochures. Perhaps try to limit the subjectivity, in fairness and to preclude any perceived favoritism, etc, but provide some objective parameters by which players can make tournament considerations and decisions. Maybe USBGF members could even assign ratings to various tournaments and a summary of such be presented -- five star down to one star.
This could include both domestic and international, as feasible, categories. The domestic tournament category would be useful for new players and for foreign players entertaining thoughts of playing a tournament or two in the States perhaps in conjunction with a vacation. Similarly, an international category may well be valuable to the US players thinking of participating in a tournament, or tournaments, abroad.
