Since I live in a world of reduced expectations, I'll be satisfied if I can just identify three of the four moves you rolled out!

If Blue can keep his checkers recirculating, he should be able to hold his timing. The most obvious 4, therefore, is to jump out to the 16pt. For the 2, an equally obvious play is to move into escape position on the 22pt.

By moving the 2 first, out to the 22pt, Blue might observe that from there (before he moves the 4) he has 4, 5 and 6 as escape numbers. White certainly won't be filling in the gaps, so perhaps there is no urgency to jump into the outer board. Unfortunately, there are no good 4s elsewhere, however, so let us guess that all four plays you rolled out move the 4 to the 16pt.

If that is the case, then there are five ways to play this 42:

  1. 20/16, 24/22
  2. 20/16, 22/20
  3. 20/16, 10/8
  4. 20/16, 6/4
  5. 20/16, 5/3*
Because of the heavy QF you have introduced, I'll guess that the best play was either the hit (5/3*), or else abandoning the anchor (22/20). I don't care for the hara kiri here, so I'll go with 22/16.

I'll also guess that the fourth-best play must be the obvious one, 24/22 20/16.

Mike
