The ethics of the OLM

The argument has been made that everyone will benefit more if I participate and vote blindly. Well, I don't think that I benefit more that way. I can, and do, play blindly against the bot all the time. I don't need to play another solo match against the bot on BGO. The reason I would play in the OLM is for the experience of a consultation match learning to listen to other people, and learning when I should be swayed by others' opinions and when I should stick to my own guns. I can't do that alone at home.
I'll just address this piece... I don't really have a problem with anything you've said.
You're right that there's no point in an OLM being another match against a bot. But it's hardly that. I'm saying I think people should vote and write blindly, but that's not the whole story! When you're done with that, every should absolutely go back and read what other people have written. When you do it this way, I believe you (and everybody else) is going to get more out of it. I've voted blindly for quadruple whoppers before. When I do that, I really learn something, and I think the experience wouldn't be the same if I had read all the other opinions of other people first.
I think you mislabelled the thread title in the first place. None of this really has to do with ethics. It has to do with the best way to learn backgammon. When I teach mathematics, I emphasize to students that mistakes are great -- inside every mistake is a lesson. If we look at things the right way, mistakes are the BEST way to learn. Backgammon has a similar learning paradigm.
