When I teach mathematics, I emphasize to students that mistakes are great -- inside every mistake is a lesson. If we look at things the right way, mistakes are the BEST way to learn. Backgammon has a similar learning paradigm.

That is an excellent argument, and I am now tempted to revise my preference and to try it your way. If I blunder, then read the other posts, then post, I will have the pleasant opportunity to mitigate the impact of the blunder by saying that I now realize why it was a blunder. If I post rightaway, the public shame will make the blunder more vivid and memorable, making it less likely that I will do it again.
