Stick, as someone who delivered pizza before you were born, I can assure you that tipping pizza drivers is not something invented recently to bedevil you.

No, but it is expected now. That's the big difference from then til now.

Maybe it varied in different parts of the US, but when I was growing up in my hometown there was not yet a delivery charge of any type nor did the pizza guy give me that blank stare of 'do you want change?' He just gave it to me.
