In Response To: Daily Quiz 12/5 (Daily Quiz)

1. I find it a tough play as blue has a race lead and can make a few moves without danger. Something like 21/15 8/7 has no danger. Racing and making the bar .But I also would like to make my 5 point as it is so important. We create the start of a( phantom) 4 prime and if missed having a great structure. Also the shot we leave is somewhat duplicated on some 4’s like 42 or 64. I go for the play making my 5 point as I do not feel too much under attack that suggest to play something safer like run and make the bar or stay at 21.That idea not feeling that much under attack, with 3 checkers back from white and some 4’s that are somewhat duplicated makes me wanting to make 11/5 6/5. But not that sure( as now I had much more time to way ups and downs than playing on a clock and still in doubt) as we can also play something safer with no risk. 11/5 6/5

2. Unlike the last here I have more confidence. On our side of the bar we would like to fill in the 5 + 7. But on the other side we could also run ( partially bringing down a builder to make one of those points) or just run completely. Note that gammons do not matter here but we do want to win just 1 point. Although we are winning the race getting hit is not the end of the world. Our mutual timing gets closer. Also I really would like to escape or with that single checker as white is closing in on us anyway and timing wise we have to leave also. So stepping up has to be done anyway partial or complete. As it is a dmp play for blue I just run all the way 24/18 in stead of bringing a builder down to fill in our 5 or our bar. So 24/18

3. Lets start with the take as we are supposed and it is giving me the most problems any way. White could take as low as 17% if it was a simple race. It is not, there is a clear gammon threat .Out boarded ,1+3’s that hit. Off course if missed there, is some game left as blue has still 2 checkers to bring around. White just 1. But is it enough to take with all those gammon threats and a cube at 2 possibly going to 3 away 1 away crawford? Doubt it .Blue on the other hand has a much clearer cube. Blue has so many good rolls either hitting or non hitting escaping with big doubles. It fits O’Hagans criteria about the amount of good rolls .So on the dbl I am convinced. On the take part I am not as much convinced as white has some game left. And on an easy racing cube it would be easy to take. Here the score plays a too big a part and white needs to watch out for gammons. so DBL/PASS
