I think this needs a bit of clarification. In the book (pp. 84-85), Trice only contrasts his choice of 20/10(2) with the actual play made in the game, which was 8/3(2) 6/1*(2). I emailed him about 20/15(2) 6/1*(2) back in 2006 when I was reading the book, and he hadn't rejected that play; he just hadn't considered it. He then did a Snowie 4 rollout that confirmed this play was actually best.

In the book, the "premature burial" he is referring to is putting a large number of checkers behind your opponent's advanced anchor when there is this much game left.
