I recently bought a Sony DCR-SR42 Hard Disk Drive Handicam and used it to record my matches this weekend and then the final. This model has a 30gb internal hard drive (so no tapes to mess around with) that I can download directly into my laptop -- there is also a slot for sometype of disk like a digital cam has but I've not investigated its use. At lowest resolution (which I used with no problem on these matches) the hard drive will hold up to 20 hrs of recording. They also make the same Handicam with a 60gb hard drive.
I had it on a tripod with the camera about 24 inches above one end of the board. Resolution was fine for reading the 5/8 inch translucent dice. Very rarely there was glare on a die which made it unreadable but I could tell by the moves or when the shadow of an arm/hand blocked the glare what the die read. The field of view was wide enough so that a scorecard on the far end of the board easily was seen as well.
I ran strictly off the batteries this weekend (I had two) but it will, of course, run off wall plug as well.
