It appears that Stig used a standard deviation of 2.5 (backgammon) points for a money game.

From rec.games.backgammon posts in the mid-late 90's, Fredrik Dahl (JF author) used 3. Apparently my data at that time gave 2.7. Gary Wong independently came up with numbers in the high 2's. If doubles are late (e.g. my data) then the calculated result is an underestimate of the theoretical value.

Xavier, have you measured this?
