My primary reaction to your thoughts is that you, as well as the rest of us, should learn to play well and not think too much about playing your opponent. However, there is a mathematical reality that early cubes tend to involve smaller errors than waiting too long. I believe this does translate into winning chances. Add the fact that you will get some drops on these premature doubles and there is a strong argument for aggressive doubling. I usually recommend trying to find the right decision while leaning towards aggressive doubling when unsure. The consequence of this strategy is that you will receive a lot of four cubes. Make sure you have the strength to handle these without emotion.
