PR and Winning: Naive Question

In response to Bob Koca, (1) I said I drop MANY gammonish cubes that technically are takes, not EVERY such cube. If it's a marginal take, I'll drop. If it's a clear take, I'll take. Also, after I've taken a gammonish cube in an intermediate/advanced tournament, I'll often make the play that in my opinion results in fewer gammon losses even if I'm giving up MWC according to the bot and raising my PR. Again, I'm not talking about every such situation, only those where I believe that playing cautiously is to my advantage. (2) In a 7 or 9 point match there might be just a couple of these situations where I make a play that is technically "wrong" in order to avoid a 4 point loss. I'm certainly not dropping every cube that should be taken. I'm playing my opponent, and I'm not trying to impress a bot. It's better to be behind in the match 0-2 than to be behind by 0-4 but have a lower PR. (3) A technically incorrect play, according to a bot, may not be an "error"; it depends on the circumstances and on your opponent. Intermediate/advanced play is, in my opinion, different in some ways (not in every way) from expert play. An intermediate/advanced player has to make adjustments when playing against other intermediate/advanced opponents. (4) As Steve Mellen posted: "Ray Fogerlund often writes about avoiding the doubled gammon as an important component of his tournament strategy. There are all sorts of theoretical counterarguments you could make, of course, but it's very hard to argue with Ray's tournament results." I agree with Ray.
