New Baffle box at local tournament

Trust me! Cups should be used in conjunction with a baffle box. We have been using baffle boxes for over 40 years in Los Angeles. We required cups to be used with the baffle box over 25 years ago because of suspected cheating. One local player gave Joe Russell and me a rather convincing demonstration on how to cheat using hand rolls through the baffle box. We insisted on the rule change after that demonstration. One local player, who had been having a phenomenal 2 year hot streak prior to the rule change, vehemently protested this change stating that using cups through the box was redundant. After the rule change, his hot streak was no longer redundant--he went broke.
Another thing one should consider when using a baffle box is to always set up the board bearing off on the side opposite the box. In LA, this is automatic. It cuts down on the number of cocked rolls and gives the dice breathing room.
Something else also occurs when using a baffle box that seldom becomes an issue when rolling from a cup. On the opening roll, one person's die may strike the other person's stationary die causing the die to change numbers. We always play that the new number stands.
