Making the 'Hero Play'

I don't play poker so I'm not sure what you mean by "hero play" but I'm assuming that it's roughly equivalent to "bold play."
Generally speaking my tendency is to err on the side of making bold plays. Paul Weaver sometimes posts positions here where he confidently asserts that nobody would make the "right" play OTB; often these are bold plays. I find that half the time in those Peever positions, I end up favoring the bold play that "nobody would make." Of course what Paul doesn't see are all those times where I whopper by making a ridiculous bold play that he would (correctly) never even consider.
In terms of trying to improve, given that you are a "feel player," my recommendation is to use the bot to track how often your "hero plays" are correct and how often they're wrong (and by how much). Then dial up or dial back your tendencies accordingly. This way you will train your "feel" without having to do a lot of analysis that is foreign to your style.
The other thing about bold plays is that Magriel's criteria are an extremely good guide in many situations, and despite their fame, are still underused by many players.
