Baffle box rolling procedure

In Response To: Baffle box rolling procedure (Colin Owen)

Any time lost in rolling with a baffle box is more than made up by time gained not having cocked dice and dice thrown off the board. And there is time saved in that when people get used to boxes they will not feel the need to shake their dice as long, and their opponent's won't object when they don't. If fact, I don't care if my opponent shakes or not when we use a box. Without a box, any time my opponent doesn't shake, or shakes very little, or tenderly, it drives me up the wall and pisses me off. Even if he's not a cheater, he might be taking a shot at me because he rolled doubles last time. One very nice guy in my chouette almost never shook after he rolled doubles and always did when he didn't. Even if he did not affect the roll, it pissed me off that he was trying to. Now, if someone objects to a baffle box, even if they are not a cheater, I take that as an insult. Why, because they should say yes if for no other reason than out of courtesy if makes me feel better. I'm a nice guy. If it makes my opponent feel better to have the red checkers, bear off on the left, use larger dice, play outside, or whatever, if it is a reasonable request I will say yes to be nice. A baffle box is a reasonable request, particularly if you know you have been cheated and it makes me feel more comfortable. So if they are going to be a dick and say no, they sure as hell better shake their dice every time; they better not accidentally forget to take their checker off the bar; they better not take too long a break; or they will hear from me. Surprisingly, I return dickness with dickness. There is NO VALID REASON to reject something that clearly adds to the randomness of the dice, prevents cocked dice, eliminates tension about shaking the dice, and that I went to all the trouble to buy and bring to the tournament. Just because you are not used to it or "don't like it" is a selfish, pissy reason to say no, and I hope some day the rules require the box if either player wants it, provided there is one available that the tournament director approves as not being some kind of gadget that rigs the dice in some way.
