Why on Earth was it ever referred to a Baffle Box when PARANOID BOX is a more apt description?

Forget about cheating for a minute. If you really want to prevent cheating then hire staff to roll and move for each player; put each match in a private room with no windows and doors, and make sure neither player has any type of electronic receiver on his person to receive input. (Even then, I can think of a few ways to cheat.)

The purpose of the Baffle Box (named so because it has "baffles") is to help make the experience more pleasurable by making everyone feel more comfortable that there were random rolls. To stop people from being concerned about how their opponents were rolling the dice or whether or not they were shaking. To stop worrying whether the cups have big enough lips and if the board allows for enough bounce and roll. To stop having to crawl all over the floor looking for dice, and greatly reduce the number of cocked dice.

It exists to improve the enjoyment of the game, and for me, and others who have gotten used to it, it does just that by quite a bit. It does it enough to warrant the expense of buying it and the trouble of carting it to tournament and pleading with your opponents to please be kind and courteous enough to use it for all of the above reasons.

That is might also help prevent some kind of cheating is a nice bonus, but not really the major advantage of the box.

That it also looks good and feels professional to use it, of course, is strictly a matter of opinion...I cannot make logical arguments about aesthetics and feel, but to me, and many others, it also does that.

A thing of beauty is the baffle box-- Defeats the dicks that don’t shake, And produces a lot fewer cocks.
