Repairing illegal moves in non-clocked play

I'd give a verbal indication when I am finished.
I see two situations that could happen after an illegal move is pointed out (using "you" in the sense of the French "on"):
1) the legal play is obvious. You make it. You can say you finish, but in any case your dice are already up, so you have indicated your play is finished. You can also say "Sorry, your turn", which I think would be polite and nice.
2) you realize that you have a choice and that you want to look at alternatives. Then you restore the position before the play, put the dice on the board, and follow the normal procedure. (In this case, I'd probably say something like "Sorry, but I would like to look at a few candidate moves", which again seems the polite thing to do)
In the scenario you mention, the ruling should always go against the one who made the original illegal play (because the dice are "up").
