Nactation — F alone is the best symbol for fanning.

One of my own reasons for preferring to include the roll when fanning for match and game transcriptions is that in cases where I at the outset do not plan to have the match analysed by gnu, but later change my mind, I can keep my code for extracting the dice rolls from files containing Nactation (those files of course now have their own file extension .nac ;) very simple.
In GnuBg you can choose to have the dice rolls taken from a textfile rather than manually inputted or generated by your favourite RNG. Once you have the textfile with the actual dice rolls, this is a quicker way of inputting matches as it saves you of using that pesky device called a mouse a number of times equal to the number of dice rolls in the match.
If I leave out the roll when fanning, I would have to add code that checked the state of the opponent's home board in order to select a roll resulting in fanning. This is of course not hard to do, but who wants to recompile code if they can avoid it and at the same time get nicely aligned columns of Nactation ?
This reason disappears once Nactation has become stable and we have tools for conversion between traditional notation and Nactation.
