Although a rollout might easily change things, based on the following XGR++ eval, either of the plays under consideration is viable. If you look only at the cubeless numbers, however, you might fool yourself into thinking that the double hit is the big winner. It does score the gammon victories that HiGoneFive mentions. At this score, however, are a lot times when Blue must pass a cube after his double hit fails. Hence, the near equality of the simple running play.
