I think 7/2, 8/4 and 8/3, 8/4 are equally optimum, getting us off with doublets higher than 1's next roll and any two roll sequence (if we're fortunate enough to live that long). It doesn't even help to know now what our upcoming dicerolls will be, unlike in the bearoff when choosing to leave your last 2 checkers on either the 2- and 4-points or the 1- and 5-points. So between those two I'll go with my initial instinct, i.e. before I looked at possible upcoming sequences.
