Boring beyond belief (blackjack) and almost as boring (poker)
When talking about live poker I'll agree. I get violently bored at a table even when I should be paying attention to all the details of every hand (even the ones I'm not in) it is simply too painful. Blackjack is a different beast, if you really get into blackjack it's more exciting than playing basic strategy and waiting on your cards and knowing the correct play.
If you try to get your 1-2% edge in blackjack you learn to count cards which means you're paying attention to everything every hand (all the while trying to look like you're not paying attention to anything at all, this is part of the game) Your head is also always at work. You're constantly keeping up the running count and converting it to the true count when need be. You have to mentally reference in your head how to play certain hands when the count is + or - so much. It's no longer "look down, see you have 14, see the dealer has a 2 up, stand". Instead it's "wait til everyone is getting their 2nd card, let your eyes wander and cluster count as well as you can, look down at your cards, look at the dealer cards, change the count you just updated (don't forget your side count!) to the true count, reference that true count against the chart you have for whatever deck shoe you've memorized and you're playing, and decide how to play your hand. Sometimes you'll be hitting that 14 v. 2, and when you do, and get an ace, now you have to refigure in real time whether you're supposed to hit 15 v. 2 all without fucking up your count. I'll stop droning on now, I doubt many ppl made it this far, but blackjack is very interesting once you get outside basic strategy.
