In Response To: Does Jacoby Rule affect checker play? Implications for Hickey and Storer's WHAT'S YOUR GAME PLAN? (Rick Janowski)

I went through the entire book pretty carefully before publication and I'm pretty confident that the Jacoby rule makes no significant difference to any of the problems in the book. The exact rollout equities might change slightly in a few cases of course.

I think that the draft that I initially received may have had one or two Jacoby-related bugs that I flagged. In particular, some of the positions in the book originally arose in a match situation, but were posed as money-play problems for the purposes of the book. In a match, it's possible to be too good when the cube is centered, and I think there may have been one or two positions where Black was playing on with a centered cube. These anomalies were fixed in the published version.

I'd estimate that only about 1 in 500 money-game checker-play problems with a centered cube that you see in books or posted on websites like this one are significantly affected by the Jacoby rule, if you exclude positions where the player on roll was too good to double before the roll.
