I was still deciding between "pay now" and "pay later" when I stumbled into the answers. I could then no longer say what my play was going to be. I do know that I had decided that if I was going to play later I would keep a spare on the 6-point ([7/1, 7/2]) rather than leave the awkard spare distribution (that pays off rather painfully to a 54 roll next turn) or give up the blocking/landing 8-point. Was 7/1, 7/2 enough worse than 7/1(2) that it wasn't worth rolling out?
Regarding some thoughts about the position, although White seems to be running out of time, I think he should keep a checker on the midpoint next turn (if Blue chooses "pay later"). Also, if Blue pays now (related to ah_clem's response) White is going to be giving up one of his anchors to hit next turn almost certainly before he'd like to. Of course he should but not without some breath holding.
BTW, your slip up in posting the rollout result prematurely is something I've always been concerned about doing myself and actually led me to change my 'default' setting to NOT show rollout results.
