1. They are AtS (4a 4a). Perhaps that what you wanted but this could be a huge monkey wrench in the machine of generally what is right or wrong.
I could have changed to $-game, but I had this analyzed, and furthermore the plays and cube decisions made in the actual game were AtS. It's "real backgammon" in the sense that it really occurred, and even when the wrong play was made, the resulting position COULD come up for pretty much anyone. From that standpoint it's a "real backgammon problem".
2. Are they really backgames? The pip count is so close in the positions I've seen so far nobody is really in it to play a backgame.
There has since been another thread discussing what a backgame is. I wasn't actually trying to get into the debate when I made the subject line -- just wanted a subject line. If you stay around long enough you'll probably find a position or two which even you might call a backgame (although not a perfect backgame). But even if that doesn't happen... (refer back to answer to #1 above).
