why not leave things as they are?

I like the Giants list the way it is. It is an imperfect, but reasonable measurement. That's good enough for me. I find the driving desire to determine who is better or best somewhat off the mark. Every time we sit down to play we need to earn our stripes anew. When we play poorly, what does it matter where we are on a list? I like David Well's suggestion: If you think you are strong, let's play. It is firmly rooted in the moment. The question "who is better?" holds less interest to me than the question, "how strong can I become?" The rest of you can work on finding a better measurement of proficiency at backgammon. I need to spend my time learning how to play.
