The growth of backgammon has to be done locally. A bigger player pool necessarily means better attendance in major tournaments. The best thing that has happened in us for a while is the usbgf and I am sure we will see some positive results from this a few years down the line like we have seen in other countries where backgammon has been better organized than in the us. That being said, I would also like to see more innovation in backgammon tournaments, particularly more affordable sideevents which are still big enough to cover your tournament expenses if you win them (100$ 16 man jackpots and such.), and certainly the organizers who have the most interesting tournaments are likely to get the best attendance.
