Attendance at ABT tournaments (not "events")

Adam, I'm not sure how this relates to "the thesis of the post." The main point of my post was to count how often people attended tournaments, instead of counting how many rated events they entered once they got there. My only source of information is the data USBGF has made public concerning rated events.
2009-2012 there were about 5,186 tournament attenders -- counting entrants in rated events as "attenders" but no more than once per tournament, and they played in about 7,112 rated events.
If your friend played in the main at one tournament and in rated side events at two other tournaments in 2011, I've counted him as attending "3" tournaments. The USBGF rating list would count him as entering whatever number of rated events he entered.
I acknowledge that some people do show up at tournaments and don't play in anything at all, or only play in unrated events, like a small jackpot or a quickie or a pre- or after-tournament tournament or a stop-pot. If at those two other tournaments your friend played only in unrated side events, then both USBGF and I have counted him as attending one tournament only.
