I deliberately excluded the psychological factor, but of course you're absolutely right that psychology is almost certainly going to be the overwhelmingly dominant factor in a heads-up contest.

A bot doesn't care if it's 200 points down on the scoresheet. It's going to keep playing exactly the same way. It's a rare human that is able to remain completely unaffected by how things are going. Even if he or she is able to ignore the luck swings, fatigue will surely set in and almost inevitably increase errors.

This just underlines that a money-game session won't really be a test of skill in the narrow sense that some people think of "skill." If the real question is whether someone is able to sustain a certain PR in live play, then that question has to be tested directly.
