Presumably you're referring to money sessions. Instead of playing arbitrarily faster to subjectively satisfy David's desire for more speed (which you don't want to do), why not agree to use a clock to play money sessions? Negotiate initial time controls, and adjust them after a set of games, if desired. Then, your time is your own - as it is in clocked match play. If you can't agree on controls - at least you tried.
