I hereby give thanks to both Nack and Stick for their extraordinary ability and willingness to explain backgammon theory and problems. Both contribute significant amounts of time and energy to help lesser players such as myself. Nack is hands down the best analyst I have ever encountered. I agree with Paul Weaver that his writing talents are right at the top. He combines incisiveness with an uncanny “k-nack” (sorry, folks) for breaking a complex solution into a series of simple, easy-to-grasp steps.
Stick is also a first-rate backgammon theorist and teacher. One nice thing he does is answer almost every post that otherwise goes unattended. It does not matter who writes it, or how basic the position. Another skill worth noting is Stick’s Socratic “k-nack” for answering a question with a question. He teaches by asking. It is remarkably effective.
That said, I also want acknowledge Timothy Chow for the lengthy writings he has produced, both here, and at rec.games.backgammon. They are a continuing source of valuable backgammon information.
