minimum wage

I was in those chouettes virtually every day when Jake was playing and winning 2.5 points per hour, but there are other reasons why Jake didn't win more points even though he was, as he said, far better than the rest of us. It is because our rules allow players to pick and choose who to double and who to take, and Jake was always the first to be dropped and the last to be cubed. This means that when people were taking bad doubles and close doubles, Jake was usually on the sidelines watching, and when people were passing out loose cubes, they didn't push them at Jake (players who were cubed could also consult, and the last one you want consulting your opponent's is the best player in the game.)
If we had rules that called for equal action on the cube, or taking and dropping in order, Jake would have easily averaged a lot more points per hour.
My personal opinion is also that Jake did not play chouette strategy as well as heads up. I find that most of the giants who play in our chouette consistently make one major error: because they know they play better than everyone in the chouette, they generally take and drop everyone when doubled on the basis of whether it is a take or drop. Their ego will never allow them to drop the best player or two that is doubling and take all the weaker players, because they know they are still much better than those players they took. But even those players will cost Jake tremendous equity when they show the others the right plays and the right time to recube or take recubes. If it is a close decision, Jake, and other giants, would do well to drop one or two of the best for the increased equity they gain playing the worst, especially when the difference between the crowd is very great. So as much as I respect Jake's game and his logic in dealing with fish like us, I believe his results could have been much better. As a result, I was happy to be in a big chouette with Jake in the game, but I certainly wouldn't dream of playing him heads up.
By the way, Jake didn't mention another area where he had a major advantage on the rest of us: settlements. Jake never made a bad settlement and often made very good ones, and that certainly raised his average winnings to some extent.
